What does Signals mean on Hinge?

Signals is a profile badge designed to highlight daters whose recent activity shows what Hinge calls “thoughtful participation and follow-through.”

That can include how someone explores profiles, responds to interest and continues conversations. When a profile meets the baseline requirements and enough participation criteria, a small Signals badge may appear next to the person’s name.

What does “shows thoughtful signals” mean on Hinge?

It means Hinge has observed a combination of recent, measurable actions associated with considerate participation: looking through profiles before liking, adding comments to Likes, reviewing incoming Likes, following up with matches, and confirming dates when relevant. It describes in-app behavior—not someone’s personality, loyalty, relationship status, or value as a potential partner.

How the badge works

Eligibility has two layers: baseline account requirements and recent patterns of thoughtful participation. Hinge’s current help page says a dater must meet every baseline requirement and a combination of three out of five additional criteria.

Criteria can change as the feature develops. Always check Hinge’s current in-app Signals hub and official help page for the latest account-specific information.

Where can you see the Signals badge?

If your account has access to the test, Signals badges may appear beside a dater’s name in Discover, Standouts, the Matches tab or Chat. Eligible Hinge subscribers may also see them in Likes You. Because Signals is still in testing, two people may not have the same experience: someone without access will not see badges even when another account can.

How to check your own Signals status

Open Hinge, tap the photo icon in the lower-right corner, find Get More, then tap Check Your Signals. The Signals hub shows whether your status is active and provides general information about eligibility. If that option is missing, it may mean the feature is not currently available to your account—not that your profile has failed a requirement.

Signals vs Last Active vs Selfie Verified

These labels answer different questions and should not be used interchangeably. Signals concerns patterns of participation, Last Active concerns recent app use, and Selfie Verification concerns whether Hinge has completed its profile-verification process.

Selfie Verification is also one of the baseline requirements for Signals, but the two badges do not mean the same thing. Losing verification—for example, after some photo changes—can make Signals disappear until the requirement is restored.

How should you interpret the badge?

Treat it as one limited piece of context. It may suggest that a dater has recently used Hinge in ways the app associates with care and follow-through. It cannot prove that the dater is emotionally available, trustworthy, single, compatible with you or likely to respond to your message. Normal judgment and safe-dating practices still matter.

The reverse is equally important: no badge is not a negative rating. The person may lack access to the test, may be missing a baseline requirement or may not currently show the required combination of measurable activity. Hinge specifically warns against treating badge status as a measure of someone’s worth or dating goals. How often does Hinge Signals update?

Hinge says status is based on activity over the previous 30 days and refreshes daily. It is a rolling evaluation, not a permanent achievement. A badge can remain active, become inactive or return as account requirements and recent participation change.

Can paying for Hinge improve your Signals status?

No. A Signals badge cannot be purchased, and subscribing to Hinge+ or HingeX does not improve eligibility. The badge depends on the same baseline requirements and participation patterns, regardless of subscription status.

The paid experience is different only in how subscribers may use Signals. Subscribers with feature access can filter Discover for profiles with an active badge and may sort Likes You by Signals.
