What is the heartbeat icon on Hinge?
The heartbeat-style symbol next to a dater's name is the Hinge Signals badge. It indicates recent thoughtful participation and baseline eligibility—not that the person is online right now.

Hinge uses the badge to add context about how a dater has recently participated in the app. Depending on feature access, it may appear beside a name in Discover, Standouts, Matches, Chat, or the Likes You view for eligible subscribers.

What the icon can tell you
- The profile currently meets the feature's baseline requirements
- Recent activity reflects enough thoughtful-participation criteria
- Eligibility is dynamic and evaluated regularly
What the icon cannot tell you
- Whether the person is online now
- Whether they will reply or agree to a date
- Their relationship status, intentions, or compatibility with you
- Whether they are a safe or trustworthy person
Signals is different from a Like, Rose, Last Active status, or Selfie Verified badge. It is an activity-pattern badge, not a message sent specifically to you.
Why you may not see it
Signals is still access-dependent. A missing icon can mean the feature is not available to you or the other dater, or that the profile does not currently meet the criteria. Read whether Signals means someone is active for the most common misconception.
